Been a while since the last update.
Tried welding a bit, but I need lots of practice before I get good. My brother did lay down great welds tho. After working with the welder I finally understand how important it is to get everything clean to get a good weld. So thats what i've been focusing on, getting the chassis cleaned up for welding. The harness is out of the car, which allows me a lot more room to navigate and earlier today I stopped by and removed the brake booster and clutch master cylinder to get into the corners. Most likely MBC will be upgraded to a Z31 unit when I am assembling everything back together.

Other parts that came in were the crossmember bolts and a tubular manifold. Its nice to be getting some packages again to keep the focus on the project.

Got the welder at garage now. Dropped it off earlier today. Can't wait for all the grinding/sanding/welding tomorrow. The helmet is so fukking badass too, probably worth as much as the welder - got to love someone else's tools

Harness - the final frontier, where a man makes a decision, the blue or the red wire, knowing that it might blow up in his face, long ling after the motor is installed, all the lines and sensors hooked up, its like a car bomb, but you hope you'll hear the roar of your motor and not just a whine of the starter. To cut up the harness is scary, especially if you don't need to. When you don't really know what you're doing, well thats just pure LOCO! But that's what I decided to do. After all, the pop-ups are going to be history, the AC has been removed long time ago. I couldn't care less for 5th gear sensor and its speed limit, out of the 8 relays in the driver side, only maybe one is needed.
With that in mind, I'm going to do some reading up on the crap that I will be cutting out.
The fuse box will end up in the glove box, or its vicinity.

Saturday was great. Started by getting all the shit out of the garage, including some sort of nailed together shelves. Took out all but 4wheels and two tires from the garage, everything else went into the basement. I finally have some room to work.
We started off by taking the old dash I had, and installing it in Joe's car, didn't take too long, especially with chitchat here and there. Only thing we forgot is to take off the old vin from the dash, so hopefully he won't get hassled too much. In the meantime my girl stopped by with the one piece I thought I had thrown out - steering shaft bushing. Very easy to install once the rack is out, as its nothing more than four 12mm nuts. Done, so I went and started cleaning up some more.
Once Vinny stopped by, it was back to work. The engine spent its last day in the bay for a while. Now is the time to make it better. Finished up unbolting rest of the harness and lines, and since we're dropping the crossmember as well, we raised the engine off the motor mounts. Almost went as smoothly as desired, but one of the bolts that holds the crossmember stripped. A few minutes with a cutoff wheel and that issue was solved. With the crossmember off the car, pulling the motor was a breeze. Now I know now the shortcut to swapping this sucker in/out and will be doing it this way from now on. At this point we called it a night and going to finish it all up at a later date.

Stopped by tonight to meet Joe who's bringing over the hoist. Haven't seen him in ages. In the meantime I started playing around with the old S13 KA24DE valve cover I had laying around. I figure I try painting it in a two tone and see how it comes out and if it comes out good, than do the same to the SR20 one.
This weekend - the motor come out.

I've spent most of the day looking at numerous places to figure out where to cut up all the un-needed wiring crap thats in my engine bay. I got most of it figured out, but there are still a few things that I want to clean up. I am really hoping to make this a pretty small wire harness, but without going out and getting the Painless kit or something like that. Need to trace some more wires, etc. This is going to be fun. Not to mention I got to swap in new dash to Joe's car and pull the SR20DET out of the engine bay and prep that thing. Oh the joy of working on this project is endless as is the work.

Check out the new bling bling LCAs and FMIC pipes.

The plan for today was to relax, enjoy the weather, do nothing. That is until I got to the garage, than I started out by cleaning out a few things, than tinkering with car, than the next thing I know I got half of the harness off and getting ready to pull the motor. Still a little work left, but I will end up raising the motor and dropping the crossmember from underneath, than continiue to remove the motor completely. Seems to be the easiest way to do this and it will allow me to get easy access to the engine bay. Got to stop by Joe's place this week to pick up the engine hoist.

AN line arrived, but the rest is hijacked by UPS for the weekend. Next time I have to remember to give them a call ahead of time, so that I can pick it up in person. But I also ordered a nice set of HID lights for the front end from Zilvia. After thinking about it, its going to be easier and cheaper than ordering a set of Hella H4 conversions and cutting them up to install the projector and ordering a HID kit. Now all I need to do is fabricate some mounts and I'll have a permanent sleepy eye mod - not that I really cared about it too much. Best part, its DOT approved driving light, so no worries about cops writing tickets. Take that Jonny Law, hehe
