Yesterday was a busy day.
On the S13 I managed to get the downpipe on, after getting the correct bracket for it. I guess its made of rubber to absorb the vibrations of the exhaust.
I had to modify the exhaust bracket to fit, but now that I think about it, I beleive that the hanger that was there was meant to have a screw going through it for the exhaust. I will check fitment later today to see if it will clear. And now I am glad that I didn't finish putting it on yesterday.

The S14 got some work done too. The oxygen sensor that I replaced was easy. But clearing the code that was a pain. Had to get to the ecu as pulling the ECU fuse didn't work. Taking off the positive battery treminal didn't work either. And it took me few minutes to get the ECU out to clear it. Runs like a champ. I also got the spark plug wires and put them on.
After that it was time that the engine bay got some TLC with the degreaser. Now the valve cover looks a lot better.

I got some parts coming in:
S13 Exhaust bracket
S14 Plug wires
S14 oxygen sensor

All should be in on Tue/Wed, so it looks like I am going to have a fun week in the garage.

Friday, I think, my oil filter adapter came in from Summit, and its almost ready to go in the car. I'm just lazy and need to get my ass in gear and do it.

Yesterday I got my tranny fluid and differential fluid changed in the S14. While I was doing that, I looked under the car to see how the exhaust looks like on the S14, and its very simmilar to the S13, so I now know how I need to route it.
The one bracket that is missing for the downpipe, will come in on Tuesday, as will the 02sensor for the S14, so I already got plans for next week. As long as there are no other delays, the exhaust should be on next week. I also got to hook up fuel lines and change to Z32 fuel filter. I might tweak around the car this weekend, but if the weather won't cooperate, I might as well do the ingnition tune up on the S14. Ahh, 2 cars, half the time. Even less money. Got to love it!!!
Oh, I got to start saving up for the Z32 front upgrade for the S14 :D Good times!!!

I did forget to post that over the weekend I did get some black vinyl from Jo-Ann Fabrics for like 2 dollars and yesterday I managed to get some of it onto the glove box. I will update the page with pics once I get home later tonite. Check here for the glovebox writeup

Thursday my radiator hoses came in. Sweetness! But I still need the silly brackets that hold the radiator.
Been so busy lately with helping everyone do stuff that I don't have any time to work on the SR20DET!! But I am hoping to get something done tomorrow. After the trip to fix a system, visit to a junkyard, and drop off some of the Civic parts.
So I may not do a lot with it at the moment, but I do hope thats going to end soon. Summer is closer every day and I do need it on the road for the summer.

On a side note, I did find out that my S14 actually has an VLSD in it. Yep, its official. I took it today to a shop to get the suspension looked at and while it was on the lift, we checked the diff.
I still need to do a tune-up on it, basic stuff, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, trans and diff fluids. Maybe I'll have some time on Monday to get it all done, till then, Slide0n!!! hehe

Yay!!! Found the title, got rid of the Civic, got an S14 SE. Nice, only if day went that good at work!
But I am not gonna complain about that.

Shifter got done, but it took me a while, as the two most forward bolts are a pain to get to, so I went under the car.
The clutch fan is on, and the radiator is in, but not secured, as I can't locate the brackets for it. But its starting to look good.
Looks like the S14 purchase is going to go through, but I got to find my title, and I've been looking for 3hrs now GRrrrrrr!!!!
We'll see, can't wait to get it tho.

I found some time, so I went and connected all the power steering hoses to the motor. The SR20DET uses the same high pressure line as the DOHC KA24DE motor, so I was all good there, just swap the ends, the reservoir hose did need a little bit of creativity to get it on, but after a cut here and there on one of the hoses I had (don't remember KA or the SR20 one), I had it connected and put in the power steering fluid. I kept turning wheel from left to right and I did manage to get few bubbles out of the system, so I just topped it off and I am going to leave if for now, and check again tomorrow. I also got the clutch fan onto the water pump pulley, now the car starts looking more and more like a real deal.
The to do list is as follows:

  • Radiator
  • SMIC
  • Cold Pipe
  • Heater Hoses
  • Shifter
  • Radio Harness
  • Downpipe
  • Tranny fluid
  • Exhaust
I will probably only get the 3/8 to 5/8 adapters for the hoses, and try to put on the radiator and the cold pipe in on Sunday, rest will have to wait till some time in the week. Which could also have little time as I could be going down to pickup my S14, but its not set in stone just yet.

Friday a lot of stuff got done, some small some big, but lest start at the begining.
Summit sent me my lines, so I went to Angel's shop to see Gary to help me put them together, while I was there, the lower bolt for the fender for the POS got fixed. But we stayed behind to have some fun with the AN lines. Of course its like 8PM and we don't have the right tape to wrap the stailess steel braided line (masking tape sux, don't even bother), the ACE Hardware is the only place that I know carries it, and its just closed. My last ditch effort - HomeDepot. Spent some time there, but noone knew what I was talking about, so I gave up.
Get back to the garage, and we were going to reuse the small piece of tape that was left on the ends to wrap the section that needed a cut. Luckly for us, it worked.
AN lines are a pain in the ass to put toghether without damaging anything, so note to self, get the vise Jaws that Summit sells, next time I am going to be doing this.
So after some creative engineering we got them together and they look GOOD!! Quick test later, and they are great.
So after that, we started talking about the 240sx and the whole SR20DET swap with Gary, but after few minutes we were on the way home to just do it. Screw all the talk, just get her done.
Frindly tip: If you are swapping a motor in, make sure your engine hoist is long enough to put the motor against the firewall, mine wasn't so we had to take off the bumper cover and the bumper. adding 30mins to install.
Than Lewe calls, and having nothing better to do either, decides to show up and give us a hand, and I am gratefull that he did, as I don't think we would have done it with just two of us, as fast as we did. It all worked out pretty good. We quickly figured out that; one guy operates the engine hoist, one guy watches for the engine mounts, and one guy is either jacking up/down the tranny or helping with the motor.
All in all, we got started around 11PM or so, by 2AM we were done. That included some time for the bumper disassembly as well as general BSing around. Not too bad.
So, at the end of the night, I got my fender fixed, AN lines done and the SR20DET is sitting in my engine bay, looking nice and pretty. Now all I have to do is run the wiring, connect the battery relocation kit, run the vac lines, heater hoses, radiator hoses (just ordered them on eBay - Silicone ones ;p), install the radiator, re-install the SMIC, and some stuff that I know I am forgetting.
P.S. Freindly tip 2. Take down the front sway bar, at least in my case, the Greddy oil pan was not clearing the sway bar, so I had to unbolt it from the chasis
Thats about it, I am very excited to have the motor in, as now its just a matter of knocking out all the little stuff thats on a pretty long list.

Yesterday I took an S14 for a spin, that a friend of mine is selling. It was pretty fun drive, even tho I didn't push the car, it did give me a boost of energy to get my SR swap done, as it is pretty fun to drive. If we can work out a deal, I might end up getting the S14 as well, but leaving it stock as a daily driver.

Yesterday I picked up a Sony MP3 deck at a local Circuit City. I needed something that would not repeat songs before I got to work, and the MP3Carputer isn't getting any funds, so this was a pretty easy temp fix. I will put it in later in the 240sx, but for now I got it cuz I wouldn't have to mess with the wiring in my car. Both units are Sony, so it was pull and swap type of deal. 10mins after walking out of the store, I was already driving away with the deck installed.
Lucky for me too, as this morning I woke up to a call that let me on a 300mile trip to pick up a folder that my boss forgot. Shuffle mode on, and I was happy. The trip would SUCK if I had my old player.

So on Sunday, I had some extra time. First Mike doesn't show up, and second my girlfriend takes the keys to the house and the car with her when she leaves.
This leaves me pretty much SOL as far as any real work, so I go ahead and get the wiring through the firewall, and clean up some more in the engine bay. Not at all exciting but I had 3hrs without any tools or a ride, so that was all I could come up with.

Summit is shipping my order in 3 packages. No biggie, because most of it will be here Wed/Thr so I will have time to make the hose before the weekend.

Ordered the stuff from Summit Racing. Now I need to wait for it to arrive.
