While wrestling around in the garage with all the parts I have laying around in there, the Z32 wheels I got looked kinda funny. After a quick measuring test, it turns out that I actually have the TT wheels, which are 7.5in wide in front and 8.5 in rear. Thats some pretty good news, especially since the tires are still in good condition.
Now I need some tools to work with and plenty of air hose. I should score some cheap from Gary's hookup, Maybe.

Not much done this weekend as far as the car goes, but I did manage to spend some money on an air compressor for the garage. Now all I need is some tools, hose and more time cleaning it up.
I did manage to get a lot of the crap cleaned up. More room helped too as the old caprice went out with the garbage. Now the Fiero went in, but its just a chassis, without any suspension AND its has the top chopped about 3in, so it doesn't take too much room.
I will be cleaning up more during this week and hopefully I can get the flywheel back by the weekend and start assembly process. Hoping to have it running by March.

Low compression numbers?
A really good writeup on the leakdown test

Got the pic of the Elise that I mentioned before, she sure is fun to drive.

On Thursday I got to drive some pretty fancy cars. First one was the Lotus Elise, which is a big ass toy, pretty much a car made for one thing, thats the road, no stinking comforts except for the radio. Getting in and out was a BIG pain, but once you're in there its nice, its not exactly made for a guy thats 6'3" tho, so I went with my second favorite of the day which was the Ferrari F360 Modena, now thats pretty much one mean sonofabitch. Paddleshift and 6speed, drove them both. But to be honest I like the paddleshift one better, its just so... so... Fucking cool! Than there was the cream of the crop Lamborghini Gallardo, now this is a lean mean almost flying machine!!! With 220MPH on the speedo, I don't doubt that it can do it, the one I drove had the paddleshift as well, but I still managed to fuck up the clutch on it. DON'T ASK.
Last but not least was the Bentley Continental GT, now this is what it must feel like to drive a car that costs more than my house. Its pretty much like driving in a panty-dropping mobile, with the interior made of the softest leather, its really quite a car. Not something that I would want, but driving one was sure fun.
P.S. Did I mention that I like my job???? Yeah, my boss is cool, I get good money for not doing to much of anything and I get some kick ass perks. Life is great. Can't wait to see what I get to drive next, I heard of couple 911s coming my way. :D

After calling around few places, I found a rental shop for engine hoist and possibly an air compressor, but it might be too small, but its pretty cheap at $30/day rental.
I might just have to do it that way, as borrowing it from Wayne is starting to look grim at this point.

Zilvia.net: "I picked up a '90 300ZX non-turbo diff. This is the R200V that is recommended. It has the same ratio as the 240 at 4.083."
Pretty good walkthrough on the Z32 VLSD swap.
Will mirror this soon on my site.

I need to clean out the garage a little this week, there is some stuff in there that I can sell, like the s14 calipers and LCAs that are in good condition. If Mike ever gets his impact going, I'll have the whole set of s13 ones for sale too.
Besides that I need to get the damn lift soon as its killing me to not start that damn motor yet.

Sweet, just got back from doing my rounds around town, and I come to see that the HKS actuator that I ordered got here. This thing is in MINT condition, I can't wait to put it on. The guy that sold it to me, practically gave it away!!!!

Yesterday my wiring harness came in, and in the mean time I got the set of Spraco rims in 16x8 flavor with +32offset.
The SR oil pump I picked up used for 20 bux, which I think is pretty cheap made it a pretty good week.
Now I am broke and its snowing too much to do anything.

Honda-Tech.com: FAQ: removing flywheel using nothing but a ratchet, 17mm 12pt socket and 9/16th box wrench? no preob: "really simple, just use a tranny bolt and put it through the closed end of your wrench and thread the bolt into the mounting hole. Put one of the pressure plate bolts in"

That is a good idea, maybe it will work.

hey what you arn't supposed to be reading this: "I put my car on the lift, removed both rear wheels, removed the rear sway bar, unbolted and removed the stock diff, then removed both the axles and put one of the axles into a vice. I dis-assembled and removed the inner joint, exposing the bare drive-shaft end with the splines showing. I then put one of the Z axles up and removed it's inner knuckle, and then tossed the rest of the axle. It was when I tried to put the knuckle on the 240's axle that disaster stroke. The 240 axle is approximately 2mm smaller than the Z axle, and thus, the spline is 2mm smaller. This meant that the inner-most part of the Z knuckle did not fit in the spline and just spun around freely. After about 20 minutes of ing/moaning about this projects certain doom, I thought about possibly welding that part onto the axle. I aligned the bearing housing(this is the part that im talking about.. the part that splines onto the axle) where I wanted it, then took a cookie(plastic grinding disc) and cleaned up the area where I would be welding. Then, I went next door and fired up the MIG welder. I started a bead and basically just went around and made 2 rings around the bearing housing, securing it to the axle. Job well done! it looked like it would hold up. I took the axles back to my car and let them cool off for about an hour. During that time, I drained the oil from both my stock diff and from the LSD, cleaned everything up, and put the cover from the stock diff onto the lsd so that it would bolt up to my car(the Z's have a 2 bolt lineup on the back of the diff[like S14's] and the S13 has a 4-bolt lineup.) I also grabbed the same cookie and cleaned up the welds that I did because they had a few messy bits that looked like they would fall off and perhaps get wedged between a bearing and the housing and cause some trouble. Then, I re-assembled the joints onto the axles and everything was looking great. I re-installed the axles with no problem, then I raised the lsd and bolted it in. Everything lined up perfectly(the axles, drift shaft, pumpkin bolts) except that the two mounting bolts that bolt the pumpkin on its front side were not lining up. One bolt lined up, and the other one was about 2mm off. Luckily, that diff had rubber bushings suspending the bolt-holes so i used a screwdriver and got everything bolted in. Over all, my car looks JDM from the bottom now because of the 5-bolt-output-flange pattern, haha!"

Some good info, looks like this guy is a little nuts

While hunting around yesterday I found a 300zx that can't be touched, but I did manage to pop the hood and see where the MAF would be located, and it looks like its not something you want to do in a13F degree weather with 3in of snow on the ground.
But hey, now I know how much of PITA it is to get one.

Its been pretty crappy as far as the weather in the past few weeks. I didn't do as much as I had hoped. The harness should be here by the weekend and all is left is the flywheel. So I will need to get that going. Having air compressor would help out a lot, but it doesn't look like I will get one anytime soon.

Maxima.org Forums - fuel pressure Nightmare!!!!: "Yeah, it should run leaner with the Z32 maf than with the A32 maf because the maf voltage will be lower, meaning the ECU thinks you are flowing less air, meaning the ecu in turn dump in less fuel, thus you would run lean."
Looks like it could work, but it would require tuning, so off to get a Z32 MAF

NICO Forums - powered by ZeroForum: Is Maxima MAF same as Z32??: "The Maxima MAF has a different voltage calibration, it does not resolute the same amount of airflow as the Z32 unit but it would be one less element of restriction in the intake on a low power car."
Looks like it might just work!!!!! NICE!!!

Nissan SX Owners Club: "Wire the MAFS in like the diagram below.

Then on the S-AFC, go into the SENSOR TYPE menu and select HOT WIRE. After that, calibrate it to 02in and 05out for S14 or 07out for S13. That's it! It should run perfectly, just make sure you have the MAFS hooked up properly."
Pic saved on my server, but never the less good info.

NICO Forums - powered by ZeroForum: Lightweight 16" wheels for 4-lug 240SX that won't break the bank!: "Search is a good start to your answer. Start at 8' 35 as reference since we know that clears all suspension and still fits under the car"
Finally, a good answer to the wheel fitment question!!
Now I know what I can work with

So its been over seven months since I got the car. I never thought it would take this long to do this little! But the car is starting to be put back together and new parts are going on the motor, which is always good. I am waiting on the wire harness to come back form the guy in Texas so that I can start to put the motor back in. In the meantime its too cold to think about going into garage, so I trying to find out more about anything and everything that I can. I still need to do the flywheel!

Wednesday, January 12, 2005

Did some surfing around the net and found out that I can use the Z32 VLSD that I got in the deal a while back. I will need some 180sx axles to make it work, but not bad for a freebie. It won't be a big concern untill later on in the year. I think somewhere around March/April is when I would want to put it in. But for now, its nice to know that its an option and I will keep an eye out for a deal on the axles.

OK, so the turbo is back on, the gaskets are replaced. I also got the turbo elbow on. She's starting to look good. I need to get a hold of an engine hoist again tho, as I am not picking up the engine again. Its kinda heavy. I also got to get the damn flywheel off, its pissing me off that its so damn hard to remove! But it would be easier in a shop with impact. Hopefully Mike's Snap-On will do the trick. Besides all that I forgot to mail out the wiring harness, I HAVE TO do it Monday!!!

Saturday, January 08, 2005

Not much progress over the week as I have been really busy with work and the big snowstorm. I did manage to get the exhaust manifold sandblasted and painted, and I did start to put the turbo back on. I will finish up putting on the turbo and the elbow/extension on and few other misc gaskets and will try to take off the flywheel, which is the only thing that is slowing me down at this point.

Got some things done, but not as much as I hoped. The oil pan is replaced with the Greddy unit and I like the SR20 on the front of it. But I am still waiting on the silicone sealer to dry to put oil back in, will do that tomorrow. I also need to get my ass to send out the package to the guy to do my wiring, as its pretty much a top priority now.
I had to pay some court fees this week that I totally forgot about, which sucked as that was too much money to go to waste. So I am steaming about that. Besides that New Year's was cool, fireworks were nice, but my camera fogged up in the cold, so I don't have as many shots of them as I would like.
